Special plane to carry telecom equipment to Leh

Satellite telecom equipment has been flown in special aircraft to Leh to restore mobile and telephone connectivity in the city and adjoining areas where communication services came to a halt due to a devastating cloudburst.
"The tri-service disaster management coordination group has decided to send special service aircraft to carry 19 VSATs (very small aperture terminals) and other equipment of BSNL to Leh so that mobile and telecom connectivity could be restored there," defence ministry officials said here.
The group also reviewed ongoing rescue operations in the city and briefed the Defence Minister about the steps being taken to provide succor to the affected in Leh.
"In the meantime, two INMARSATs have been provided to Leh district administration for meeting immediate communication requirements," they added.
