Techzone forays into celeb management via mobiles

Techzone, a Chennai-based mobile value added services company, has launched a service through which celebrities and their fans can keep in touch via platforms such as SMS, IVR (interactive voice response) and WAP (web access protocol).
South Indian actress Namitha has become the first celebrity to share her updates through this mobile platform. The actress will SMS updates about herself and her movies, and these will be sent to all her fans who have registered with Techzone.
Similarly, those fans who have registered on IVR, will get a call on their registered phone number which will play a different message recorded by her every day.
Speaking to Telecom Yatra, Bharath Varadarajan, marketing manager, Techzone, informed, “In our endeavor we will be creating copyrighted content that will belong to Techzone exclusively. We also have rights for Namitha's movies, which we intend to bundle and offer as a package for imagery and video.”
He added, “We have still to finalise a business model for celebrity management via mobiles because in the first year of operation we want to gauge the market for it.”
However, he said that from the second year, the company intends to team up with other celebrities as it will develop expertise in this domain.
On tying up with service providers, he said, “We will run this content across all telcos in India as we want to reach all subscribers. Techzone already has an existing revenue share deal with operators for other services and this will be on similar lines.”
Early this year, UK-based company Inside India had also launched a service on similar lines with superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The service, called Bachchan Bol, allowed the actor’s fans to hear his thoughts and experiences via IVR.
Similarly, in August, UTV New Media had signed up with Mahesh Bhupathi’s celebrity management company Globosport to develop applications and interactive services for the mobile platform. UTV will launch services such as voice blogs, chats, merchandise, celebrity-based games and images over the next 24-36 months.
Apart from the celebrity management service, Techzone is also going to come up with CSR campaigns on mobile. For AIDS awareness, it is planning to launch IVR and SMS updates in December.
