Apple is working on three iPad 2 versions which are likely to be released in April reports DigiTimes.
The models are said to have Wi-Fi, UMTS or CDMA connectivity or in combination with each other. UMTS is an acronym for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, which is also known as 3GSM and Wi-Fi connectivity.
As far as current sales go, close to 65 per cent iPad sales are being made for 3G models, which may propel Apple towards more 3G models.
The market has seen a flurry of rumours about iPad 2 and what additions would be made to it, and most of them have talked about common features such as front facing camera and the shape being squarer.
Apple is also working on the issue of screen reflection and smudging, though how the company would go about addressing them is not clear yet. It is also said to be working to reduce the mass of its tablets (by using a thinner glass) which are on the slightly heavier side compared to other tablets being sold in the market.
Apple is also expected to add USB ports to the iPads, an interesting move considering the fact most users have been vociferous about the need for such ports in their iPads. Apple is expected to gradually stop the production of iPad and make a shift towards iPad 2. There is no official word from Apple on the issue yet and none is expected anytime soon since the company is known to make formal announcements through publicised events only.
