Hyderabad-based bulk SMS solutions provider 160by2 says that it plans to expand in the Middle East. The company currently has offices in the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Satyakalyan Yerramsetti, chief executive officer and founder, SMS Country, tells Telecom Yatra, “We are looking to expand in the Middle Eastern region. But, there are some issues in these countries. Operators are not very open and are very strict about anti-spamming policies. We have been facing on and off blocking problems in the three Middle Eastern countries where we are operational.”
The company, which registers about 7 to 10 crore SMSs per month, says that about 30 per cent of its SMS traffic comes from its WAP site and that the rest are through company’s website.
160by2 lately changed its business model. Till some time back it was working on an 80 character SMS and 80 character advertisement model, but now it has started offering 140 characters to users and the remaining to advertisers, in order to compete more effectively.
