GL Communications launches VoIP monitoring solution

GL Communications Inc today announced the release of its latest packet product PacketProbe, a CPE (customer premise equipment) based VoIP monitoring solution.
Jagadish Vadalia, senior manager, product development, said in a press statement, "GL's PacketProbe is an advanced CPE based VoIP monitoring, reporting and diagnostic appliance. It can fit seamlessly into any existing standards based management or reporting environment such as SNMP or RADIUS.”
He added, “PacketProbe can be used to ensure successful deployments, and can also be used to help with network design, ensuring that the most efficient topologies are implemented. Additionally, PacketProbe can be used for ongoing network management to allow for maximum customer uptime and to allow service providers to meet or exceed their service level guarantee."
As a stand-alone appliance, PacketProbe can interface with WAN or LAN. It can even function as the demarcation point between WAN and LAN. It passively monitors VoIP traffic and produces real-time per call and per stream voice quality metrics necessary for network administrators to isolate and diagnose voice quality problems.
PacketProbe, stated the press release, has real-time monitoring and reporting capabilities and can report call metrics to a local console, or to a centralised database via industry standard protocols such as TCP/IP, SNMP, and RADIUS. A network management system (NMS) would then allow many simultaneous users to read and query the database using a conventional web browser.
