OnMobile, a Bangalore-based mobile value added services (VAS) provider, has forayed into Egypt by offering services for Vodafone customers there. The company has witnessed 2.6 million downloads since it entered that market 60 days ago.
According to a press statement, OnMobile's VAS downloads have resulted in a 30 per cent growth in Vodafone's revenue in Egypt.
The rollout in Egypt is part of a global deal between Vodafone and OnMobile to offer services such as ring back tones and mobile radio to customers in emerging markets.
Arvind Rao, the chief executive officer, chairman and co founder of OnMobile, said, "We are very excited about our debut in Egypt and the drastic increase in subscriber base is highly rewarding. We look forward to introducing the entire gamut of our VAS portfolio in Egypt by partnering with Vodafone."
According to Dataxis Intelligence, the Egyptian mobile market has registered over 25 million new subscribers during the past two years. The number of mobile phone users stood at 57.6 million in March with penetration rate of more than 74 per cent of the population, compared to just over 43 per cent two years ago.
