HTC Desire's clone costs Rs 6,000 – less than one fourth the price of the original which is Rs 27,000.
A senior executive of China based TopWise communication said to TelecomYatra, "we can manufacture a Handset model which is similar to HTC desire. It will have same good looks and performance."
When enquired about the price he said, "It depends on the size of the shipment but if I have to tell about the price of a single handset it can be roughly around Rs 6,000."
He also said, "If we get an order for manufacturing of HTC desire look alike we can produce three lakh pieces per month for the distributors."
Paolo Rosa, who is head of the promotion division of, International Telecommunication Union, said in argument against popular belief that "Most of the handsets manufactured in China pass through a stringent test of quality and standards so we cannot label all the cheap handsets from China as inferior in quality."
He added, "People importing handsets from China should carry out their own checks before taking delivery of the mobiles so that they are sure about its quality and their customers are happy with their handsets."
