Hughes Communications, provider of broadband satellite and managed network services, has received orders from two major Indian public sector banks to provide them with managed network services.
Allahabad Bank has contracted the company, which provides broadband satellite and managed network services, to connect 1,400 locations with satellite terminals and 1,000 with terrestrial MPLS links for Rs 40 crore.
Central Bank of India meanwhile, has contracted Hughes to deploy a network of 1,955 satellite terminals at Rs 12.5 crore.
Allahabad Bank plans to utilise the satellite and MPLS network to launch the second phase of its core banking solution in its urban and rural branches, while the Central Bank of India is expanding its core banking solution to its rural branches.
Partho Banerjee, the chief executive officer and managing director of Hughes Communications India, said, "Hughes has an order backlog of 6,000 more sites to be rolled out in the next 6 months, and we estimate that approximately 100,000 ATMs and 25,000 branch locations will be rolled out in the next three years by various banks in India."
Hughes provides network solutions to more than 23 nationalised and private banks in India. It also manages networks for more than 17,000 branch and ATM locations across the country. The company's major customers include State Bank of India, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank.
Hughes has also built and operated INFINET, or Indian Financial Network, of over 3,000 locations across all banks - a project that was facilitated by the Reserve Bank of India.
