Most users choose phones on the basis of features, whereas they should also consider environmental impact.
Nokia phones are the greenest, according to Good Guide website, which works to spread consumer awareness on products and companies. Handsets from Samsung, Motorola and Palm follow Nokia in the list.
The top scorers in the list are there because of their recycling programmes and green production practices, says the website.
Of the top 30 models, 26 belong to Nokia, and almost all the handsets have scored 7.7 or 7.6 out of 10. The top honours were received by C6, Nokia 6700, Nokia E72, Nokia E5 and Nokia X3.
iPhones, too, performed well on environmental grounds, especially since Apple has stopped using toxic chemicals.
Most users choose cell phones on the basis of features and price alone, and do not take the social or environmental impact of the device into account, says Good Guide. The site advises that phones which do not provide any information about their environmental properties should be avoided.
Good Guide website also says that phones that have the lowest SAR (specific absorption rate or radiation exposure) values should be preferred by users.
"Whenever chargers are not in use, they should be unplugged by users and only those chargers should be used which disclose the efficiency of the chargers," the website suggests.more: tmi
